The special flight from the Maldives landed here with 82 passengers on Wednesday night. The officials guided all the passengers to the arrival hall for the COVID-19 swab test and the Customs and immigration clearance.

The immigration officials, while checking the travel documents of the passengers, grew suspicion on one passenger. The name mentioned in the passport was Surya Narayana from Andhra Pradesh. The officials detained the passenger and did not allow him to the exit.

During the inquiry, they found that he was a Citizen of Bangladesh and that the passport was fake. The immigration officials informed the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Chennai and the police who arrived at the airport arrested him for further investigation. Meanwhile, the rest of the 81 passengers were taken to the quarantine camp on special vehicles. Sources said while 64 passengers had preferred free quarantine arranged by the government, 17 passengers opted for paid facilities and were taken to various hotels in the city.
