Virus cases in Tiruvottiyur zone breach 1,000 mark
With the total number of positive cases in the city nearing 30,000, Tiruvottiyur zone has also crossed 1,000 cases.

Already, all the seven core city zones -- Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar -- had breached the 1,000 mark. Valasaravakkam zone, an extended zone, had also crossed the more than 1,000 cases.
According to Chennai Corporation data, Tiruvottiyur reported 1,024 cases on Friday morning, of which 580 are active cases. As many as 438 persons have recovered and six patients died.
As per the records, Royapuram has 4,584 cases and Tondiarpet has 3,584 cases. Teynampet and Kodambakkam zones have 3,291 and 2,966 cases respectively. Also, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar and Adyar have 2,550, 2,751 and 1,534 cases respectively. Valasaravakkam has 1,217 cases.
Overall, the city has 27,398 cases as on Friday morning, of which are 13,012 persons are under treatment. As many as 275 patients have died till now, as per the official records. Chennai's recovery rate is 50.8 per cent and 48.2 per cent of the cases are under treatment. One per cent of infected persons had died.
Also, more than 60.20 per cent of infected persons in Chennai are men and 39.80 per cent are women.
