According to the data, all the 46 divisions are located in Royapuram, Tondiarpet, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Kodambakkam.
The data, released a few days ago during an internal meeting, stated that division 127 in Kodambakkam zone, in which the Koyambedu wholesale market falls, still remains at the top of the worst-hit divisions. However, more than 4,000 cases linked to the Koyambedu cluster have recovered. In the third week of May, only 34 divisions had 50 per cent of the total caseload. “Now, new cases are being reported from several wards resulting in spike in cases in other divisions,” an official said.
Focus now on divisions with most cases
Among the 46 divisions that has most of the positive cases, 127 (Koyambedu), 58 (Periamet), 59 (George Town), 77 (Pulianthope), 145 (Nerkundram), 52 (Royapuram) and 50 (Krishnampet) have the most number of cases.
Meanwhile, the number of containment zones in the city remained unchanged with 64 containment zones across the city. “Containment zone is formed in areas from where more than five index cases are reported or five families are infected,” said an official.
Among the top 46 divisions, division 127 and 59 have two containment zones each, while division 52 has one.
As a part of the containment strategy, the civic body has constituted division level COVID response teams, who would geo-map the slums and identify vulnerable population.
