“I will pick up the phone if you dial 87544 01111 and the residents can report their problem directly to me,” said the official, speaking to DT Next. If the official is in the middle of a meeting or engaged in official work, there will be a dedicated person to answer the calls and if the callers still wanted to speak to the Deputy Commissioner, he would be always available once his commitments are over.

Adyar police district comprises 13 police stations — Adyar, Sastri Nagar, Saidapet, Kumaran Nagar, Guindy, Velachery, Semmencherry, Thoraipakkam, Kannagi Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur, Taramani, Kanathur and Neelankarai.

The residents can also share the grievances via SMS or messages on WhatsApp and the identity of the callers will be kept confidential. “There are things which the public may want to communicate with a senior official directly. So, this phone number will be a platform,” added the Deputy Commissioner.

The officer has also tweeted the phone number from the official account of the Deputy Commissioner for Adyar police district.
