A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) told DT Next that on the first day a total of 23,583 applications were received from the students and as many as 41,877 students registered on the second day.

Claiming that around 1 lakh applications would be registered in the next couple of days, the official said that the last date of registration has been fixed as August 16.

“Last year on the first day, only around 15,000 candidates had registered through an online portal,” he said, adding the overall applications last year touched 1.33 lakh.

According to him, soon after the registration of applications, the commencement of uploading original certificates will begin on July 31 and would end on August 20. Pointing out that assigning random numbers will be done on August 21, the official also said original certificate verifications will begin from August 24 and would go till September 1. He said Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2019 (TNEA-2019) has been made completely online. According to him, from 2019, the DOTE has been conducting counselling for students as Anna University refused to conduct after a row with the Higher Education Department on the re-shuffling of the TNEA Committee.

DOTE sources said that this year also a total of 1.47 lakh engineering seats are available in about 500 engineering colleges across the State.

“Last year only 70,000 candidates had participated in the counselling,” the official said, adding that this year about one lakh is expected to attend the engineering counselling.
