Man killed for courting a widow

The incident happened around 8.30 pm when the deceased, Muniyandi of Porur, who worked as a security guard, was walking towards the house of one Selvi on Jones Road. The accused Velayutham and a few of his friends surrounded him and attacked him. When Muniyandi tried to escape, Velayutham chased and hacked him to death.

Shocked passers-by alerted Kumaran Nagar police, who rushed to the spot and retrieved his body for post-mortem. Preliminary investigation revealed that Muniyandi separated from his wife and children and developed a relationship with Selvi, a widow.

While Selvi’s two sons did not approve of her relationship and started living separately, younger son Velayutham allegedly often quarrelled with Muniyandi to snap the relationship with his mother. Since Muniyandi ignored Velayutham, the latter murdered him. While Kumaran Nagar police secured Velayutham and remanded him in judicial custody on Monday, a hunt has been launched for his friends.
