Chief Engineer and 35 Chennai Civic employees test COVID positive
All the 35 infected personnel were said to be undertaking corona prevention duty across the city and they are now observing quarantine.
Chennai
here has been a continuous surge of corona cases in the state of Tamil Nadu for the past 5 months. The capital city Chennai which was a major contributor for the spike is now facing a downward trend.
Meanwhile, today, as many as 35 civic employees including a Chief Engineer of Chennai Corporation tested positive for COVID-19. All the 35 infected personnel were said to be undertaking corona prevention duty across the city and they are now observing quarantine. It was always a matter of concern, as the civic employees and volunteers were more prone to the virus infection, as they come in direct contact with the patients while conducting door to door survey.
The RT PCR kit which was procured by the Chennai Corporation a few weeks ago was initially used to test the civic employees as they are more vulnerable. According to the earlier reports by the Corporation Commissioner G. Prakash, "The antibody test will identify the persons who were infected with the virus and cured and persons who had gotten the infection unknowingly. All the employees in Ripon Buildings will be tested first before extending the testing to zonal offices". It is to be noted that around 28 employees were observing quarantine after the initial test through RT PCR.
Meanwhile, the civic body had also distributed arsenic album, a homoeopathy medicine, to improve the immunity level of the employees.
Of the 2,39,978 who tested positive for the virus in the state, 1,78,178 patients recovered as of Thursday, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Nearly 74% of the total coronavirus cases were cured since the outbreak.
