Parts of Chennai receive heavy rain

While good rainfall was recorded in areas like Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, Padi and Korattur, certain areas saw rainfall throughout the day. The maximum temperature recorded at Nungambakkam was 32.6 °C and at Meenambakkam 33 °C. The minimum temperatures recorded at both sites were 25 °C and 25.2 °C respectively. While Meenambakkam recorded no rainfall, Nungambakkam recorded 12.2 mm of rainfall.

“Nearly 100 mm of rainfall was recorded in Anna Nagar, Padi and Korattur belt in less than an hour. One of the most intense rains I have seen in South West Monsoon in Anna Nagar West. No thunder or lightning was recorded. To be honest, this was totally unexpected,” said Pradeep John, founder of Facebook page Tamil Nadu Weatherman, adding that the northern and north-western areas of Chennai faced the brunt.

In the State, moderate rains were recorded, with 8 to 10 cm of rainfall recorded in districts such as Tiruvallur, The Nilgiris and Karur while Theni, Dindigul, Salem, Erode, and Krishnagiri witnessed isolated cases of heavy rainfall.

According to the director of the Regional Meteorological Department, S Balachandran, mild to moderate rain can be expected in the city and the State in the coming days.
