92,128 persons cured, Covid recovery rate at 86.8 per cent in Chennai
Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation has opened 37 walk-in sample collection centres.

According to the Greater Chennai Corporation data, as many as 92,128 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the city, which is 86.8 per cent recovery rate as on Friday morning. Meanwhile, more than 1.06 (1,06,096) lakh cases were reported in the city.
On the other hand, only 11,720 persons are under treatment in the city, which is around 11 per cent.
In a positive sign, four of the 15 zones -- Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Teynampet -- have less than 10 per cent active cases. With only 5 active cases, Manali zone has the lowest active case rate and highest recovery rate at 94 per cent.
As per the data, 2,248 persons had died till Friday morning due to the virus, which is 2.11 per cent mortality rate.
Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation has opened several walk-in sample collection centres. Those who want to test their samples could walk-in to the collection centres and provide their samples along with their address and contact details.
“Earlier, samples of residents were taken only if they were found to be the contacts of infected persons or recommended by the field officials for testing. Now, anyone can go to the sample collection centres and give their swabs for testing”, a Chennai Corporation official said.
However, personnel at the sample collection centre would take samples only if the person has any one of the 18 symptoms, including loss of taste and smell, body pain, fever, cough and cold. They need not be the contacts of infected persons.
