Girl walks along 23rd floor ledge, cops take note

The incident is said to have happened two weeks ago and the building, Hiranandani, in Egattur on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) reportedly has 29 floors in total.

The video shows a girl alighting on to the narrow ledge through a window on the 23rd floor and walks on the ledge for about 30 seconds, during which she also had to make two turns. The man who shot the video could be heard in the background that they should report the incident to the police.

After the video went viral, Mamallapuram ASP Sundaravathanam visited the apartment in the jurisdiction of Kelambakkam police station and conducted inquiries. Withholding the names of the family, the police said that the girl, a Class 9 student, and her elder brother challenged each other to prove who is braver and she decided to make the dangerous walk to win the challenge.

An official said that a notice has been issued to the residents’ association seeking explanation on the safety aspects and to erect blockades to prevent people from accessing the ledges on all the floors.

It may be recalled that several incidents of children falling to death from highrise buildings have been reported in and around Kelalmbakkam in the past years.
