The missing child, Marjina, is the daughter of Bablu, a native of West Bengal, the police said. Bablu, a construction worker, is staying at a shanty inside Royapuram railway station complex along with his wife and four children as he is engaged in the construction work there.

Bablu met the kidnapper at MGR Chennai Central bus stop where he had gone to meet a friend on Sunday afternoon. The kidnapper introduced himself as a native of Odisha and sought help to get a job in the city.

Bablu took him to a Tasmac shop and the duo got drunk. Following that, Bablu took him to Royapuram railway station complex. While Bablu briefly stepped out, the accused took Marjina to a nearby shop to buy chocolates. When they did not return even after several hours, Bablu’s wife informed him. He searched for his daughter in the neighbourhood and lodged a complaint at the Royapuram police station on Monday night.

The police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the child and kidnapper. A special team has been formed to comb the CCTV footage in the locality.
