Man posts wife’s photos on FB for dowry, held

The accused R Vijayabharathi (29) of Tiruvottiyur is working as a public relations officer with a private insurance firm, said police.

The victim, a 28-year-old woman, separated from her first husband, had developed a relationship with Vijayabharathi in 2015 before marrying him in January this year. However, Vijayabharathi allegedly started harassing his wife demanding Rs 10 lakh as dowry.

After he threatened to post her private photos on Facebook if she does not get the dowry, the woman left him and started staying with her mother in Villivakkam.

While she had lodged a complaint against Vijayabharathi at Villivakkam all-women police station, the latter did not appear for inquiry.

However, the victim came to know that her husband has shared her private photos on social media and approached the police again on Wednesday.

Police secured Vijayaraghavan and remanded him in judicial custody after investigation.

Ayanavaram all-women police also arrested a 28-year-old man for impregnating a 14-year-old relative girl. The victim, a Class-9 girl, was taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for stomach pain and her parents were shocked to know that she was pregnant.

They inquired the girl and came to know that one of their kin in Mettupalayam had taken the girl to his place and sexually assaulted her after buying her biriyani.

Based on her statement, police arrested him under Pocso Act and remanded him.
