Food Review: Intox - Healthy cuisine, with no compromise on taste

Most people have a mind block that healthy food cannot be tasty. In fact, if presented with a dish that’s both pretty to look at and delicious, the first reaction usually is – “this can’t be healthy”. And that’s exactly what happens with Intox Kitchen.

Black rice edamame with cajun chicken; Basil string hoppers with egg masala

    Chennai

The new menu includes a mixed bag of cuisines — ranging from a twist on Punjabi pindi anaari to Kerala’s basil string hoppers — roasted coconut and basil idiappam served with fish curry or egg masala to the Italian classic Aglio Olio Parmesan. In a bid to ‘eat healthy’ we picked the detox sampler comprising Black Beauty Edamame — black rice in Asiatic flavours served with cajun chicken or paneer and the Sassy Soba — sesame tossed with soba noodles. The verdict? If this meal is indeed healthy, it’s hands down one of the yummiest meals a person who is watching their diet could ask for. The Black Beauty — glistening dark rice studded with bright green edamame beans is an absolute must-try. The food comes beautifully packed in custom boxes — another plus, because the attention to detail given to the containers elevates the experience.

Intox Kitchen started in 2016, was known for their fruit-flavoured homemade ice-creams. However, this year, with the entire COVID food revolution — which came about because many businesses were forced to reinvent or revamp or just redesign their menus, Intox Kitchen too has relaunched in a new avatar. The venture is a partnership between Bhavna Arya, who is credited with creating the dishes (she deserves a huge round of appreciation for conjuring up such an interesting range of food) and marketing this venture is entrepreneur Sanjeev Verma, who most notably, spearheaded the Black Orchid Restobar. Sanjeev is fast making a name for himself as someone who is changing Chennai’s palate with a range of unique and sophisticated flavours.

Intox Kitchen gets a thumbs-up from us and though it’s a compact menu right now, we hope they keep experimenting because so far, they are on the right track.
