“A low-pressure area is likely to form over East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea on October 19 and will become more marked during subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwest direction towards Andhra coast. The sky condition in Chennai is likely to be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas,” said S Balachandran, director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

With thunderstorms and rains on late Friday night and early Saturday morning, weather experts predict more of the same for the next five days, increasing in intensity based on the low-pressure depression forming in the Bay of Bengal.

Nungambakkam saw 32.5 mm of rainfall and Meenambakkam saw 4.8 mm of rainfall on Saturday. “Good thunderstorms are expected in North TN, from KTCC to the Delta belt. We can expect high, intense rains for four days. South Chennai between ECR and OMR are expected to see rains first, and if they miss rains for one day, they will fall in the line of rains on the next,” said Pradeep John, who runs the Facebook page Tamil Nadu Weatherman.
