Annual ‘Study in UK’ fair goes virtual

Oliver Ballhatchet, British Deputy High Commissioner, said at a news conference that in 2019 and till March 2020, 49,800 Indian nationals were granted a Tier-4 study visa, a 136 per cent rise compared to previous years.

A percentage of this population have begun distance learning with their respective colleges, owing to the lack of travel. For these students, wishing for the experience of studying abroad, some visa relaxations have been granted.

“As per government advice, existing student visa holders may continue their studies via distance learning, whether from the UK or abroad, for the entirety of the 2020-21 academic year.

“New international students, in the September 2020 intake, who do not currently hold a student visa may commence their studies via distance learning, but must gain a student visa before travelling to the UK,” he said.
