Patrol vehicles turn mobile police stations, to receive public complaints

The city police now have four patrol vehicles for each of the 124 police stations. These vehicles will stop at designated places from 11 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm to receive complaints from people. The idea is to expand the presence of police on the streets and in the place of 124 police stations, there would be 372 police stations.

“Complaints, irrespective of their nature, would be received with an acknowledgement in return and a Community Service Register (CSR) receipt would be generated for further action. The same would be communicated to the complainant via an SMS,” said the Commissioner. The areas where the patrol vehicles would be parked would be communicated to the people so they can approach the police without any hesitation.

The highly subsidised food provided by Amma Canteens will now reach the doorsteps of the city’s needy as Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday flagged-off mobile Amma canteens for the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

Three vehicles, each costing Rs 27 lakh, were assigned one each for north, central, and south Chennai.

“The vehicles will go through the areas where daily wage earners are in large numbers and will provide food at the same rate in which it is sold at the regular Amma Canteens,” an official said.

He added that initially only three vehicles have been purchased and based on the response, the number of vehicles will be expanded to one per zone in GCC. The timings and menu of mobile Amma Canteens will be the same as in the regular Amma Canteens. Officials further said that the mobile canteens will have facilities to dispose of the waste and in-built washing abilities would also be there to avoid any mess in the area where the mobile unit visits.
