13.24 lakh travelled on 28,360 STC buses this Deepavali
As many as 13.24 lakh passengers travelled on 28,360 buses operated by State Transport Corporations (STCs) during Deepavali holidays.

An official release said that the transport corporations operated special buses in addition to normal daily services to various places from Chennai and other places to facilitate the public to travel to their native places for the Deepavali.
For three days before Deepawali (from November 11), about 8,753 buses were operated from six locations in the city and over 3.97 lakh people travelled on it, the release said, adding that in other places, 4,564 buses were operated and helped in the transport of 2.28 lakh passengers. “In all, 6.25 lakh passengers travelled on 13,317 buses for Deepavali to their native places,” it said.
To help the passengers to return after the festival, the corporation operated a total of 15,043 buses across the State and helped in the travel of 6.99 lakh passengers.
“After the Deepavali (from November 15 to 18), 10,414 buses were operated from various places to the city and 4.68 lakh passengers travelled on them. About 2.31 lakh passengers travelled to other places across the State on 4,629 buses,” it said.
Besides, the corporation earned a revenue of Rs 5.84 crore through the booking of tickets by 1.21 lakh passengers.
