“One K Abinaya, a caterer who has been childless for about eight years, told his employee Senguttuvan that she wanted to adopt a child legally and is ready to pay up to Rs 25 lakh. But Senguttuvan of Tiruvannamalai told his friend Ganesh of Kancheepuram to kidnap a child on the promise of Rs 10 lakh. Ganesh approached his friend Babu of Dindigul since he was in dire need of money. Babu, his wife Gayathri and their minor son along with another juvenile kidnapped the child from Koyambedu. However, since Abinaya insisted that she wants to meet the child’s parents and verify their Aadhaar before adopting the child through court, the kidnappers abandoned the child and escaped,” said Anna Nagar Deputy Commissioner G Jawahar.

Koyambedu Inspector Chidamabara Murugesan and team combed footage from about 600 CCTV cameras before zeroing in on the suspects. All six involved were secured on Wednesday.

“Babu fixed the child after monitoring Ramesh-Sandhya couple from Villupuram, who have made market complex their home, for a few days and sent his minor son and another juvenile to lift the kid in the wee hours of November 9,” said police. The child was rescued from bushes in Ambattur Industrial Estate on November 10 after an unidentified boy alerted policemen on patrol.

The four accused were remanded in judicial custody and the juveniles sent to an observation home.
