3 defamation suits against Stalin dismissed
Even while dismissing three defamation suits filed by the Tamil Nadu Government against DMK leader and Opposition Leader MK Stalin the Madras High Court on Monday sought the Opposition leader to show some restraint while publicly commenting against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Chennai
Justice N Satish Kumar before whom the plea moved by Stalin seeking to quash the defamation suits against him came up for hearing expressed strong reservation over Stalin’s comments on the Chief Minister, which was brought to the attention of the court by Public Prosecutor A Natarajan.
Pointing out that Stalin could have avoided the use of such words, the judge said with hordes of followers who look up to him, his comments are bound to have a bearing on them.
Also, noting that random allegations through the use of harsh words for political gain was beyond healthy politics and political decorum, Justice Satish Kumar said, if the leaders have proof to substantiate their allegations they have to approach the court and not use public platforms to vent out rhetoric in the guise of free speech.
Harsh utterances in the name of free speech will create a wrong and unhealthy impact in the minds of the public, the court held while dismissing the three defamation suits moved against Stalin.
