According to the Corporation, only 110 dengue cases were reported till date in 2020. There were 2,049 cases during the same period last year and 3,333 cases in 2018.

In 2019, there were 153 cases in October, 77 in November, and 38 in December. “This year, only 9 cases were reported in October, 4 in November and 5 in December (till date),” said a Corporation official.

The official added that dengue cases would start to surface in June every year usually and peak in October before coming down once the Northeast monsoon commences. “However, we did not see any spurt in the number of dengue cases this year.”

When asked the reason for the steep fall in dengue cases, the official explained that the city did not receive significant rainfall during southwest monsoon season, which would have prevented the largescale breeding of aedes mosquitoes that spread the fever.
