SSI faces dept action for abusing eatery staff
A special sub-inspector is in the dock after the mobile phone clip of him abusing an eatery owner in Maduravoyal went viral on social media on Sunday. The person in the video was identified as Harinath of Poonamallee traffic investigation wing and the incident happened on Saturday night when he was returning home on a two-wheeler.

In the six-minute-long video shot by the staff at the eatery, the SSI who is in plainclothes can be heard abusing the eatery staff and threatening them not to keep the signboards and the stove outside the shop. Harinath can also be heard threatening the control room personnel after making a call in the guise of reporting about the eatery.
When contacted, Maduravoyal police maintained that they did not receive any complaint from the victim.
Sources said the official lives on the same street where the eatery is located, and added that this was not the first time he quarrelled with the eatery workers. “Since the eatery is run by people from north India, they are hesitant to lodge a complaint,” said the source.
But a senior officer told DT Next that they received the video and an internal inquiry has been ordered against the SSI. A departmental action has also been initiated against him, said the officer.
Harinath was in the news a few years ago for threatening to jump from a tower at Maduravoyal police quarters under the influence of alcohol.
