Kotturpuram police are inquiring into a complaint by an Anna University professor about the threatening phone calls he is receiving from unknown numbers.
Chennai
I Arul Aram, professor and head of the Media Sciences Department, has stated in his complaint that he has received as many as 21 calls from an unknown number on December 20. “When I once received the call, the person on the other end started hurling abusive words before introducing himself as Veera Viswamithran,” said the professor in the complaint.
According to the complainant, Veera Viswamithran was a broker with no official post in the University during the previous vice-chancellors’ tenure and had a say in every University-related matter including the promotion of staffs, clearing of multiple arrears of the students and the contracts to print mark sheets before being thrown out. The complainant has also stated that Veera Viswamithran has also made calls to a few other staff members who supported the present vice-chancellor.
While Kotturpuram police have merely made an entry in the Community Service Register (CSR) on the professor’s complaint, a senior police officer, when contacted, said that an inquiry has been initiated and both the complainant and the accused have been summoned.
