CMRL holds trial run from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar
A day after the successful trial run of a diesel locomotive on the North Chennai extension line, Chennai Metro on Sunday operated the metro train on a trial basis from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar.

During the trial run, the metro train took its maiden run surging from the underground corridor from Washermenpet Metro station towards the elevated corridors till Wimco Nagar Metro station successfully, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd said in a statement. It added that a total of 9.051 km were covered during the trial run on both upline and downline.
CMRL managing director Pradeep Yadav along with Rajeev Narayan Dwivedi, Director (Projects) and Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations) participated in the Metro Train trial run. Senior officials of CMRL were also present during the occasion.
“With the tunnels in the underground corridors and the elevated viaducts proving ready for operations in this 9.051 km stretch, the works for finishes and fit-outs are being done day and night to achieve early commissioning. Also, the surface restoration works are on-going in parallel,” it added.
The trial run will pave the way to CMRL’s plan for fully completing the entire Phase I extension works with eight Metro Stations (two underground and six elevated metro stations) connecting the northern part of the city to the Central Business District Area.
The target is to open the new facilities for traffic by the end of January 2021. The new extension line will have eight stations – Sir Theagaraya College, Tondiarpet, Toll Gate, Thangal, Gowri Ashram, Tiruvottiyur and Wimco Nagar.
