Chennai beaches closed for public on Kaanum Pongal
To keep covid-crisis under control, Chennai beaches especially Marina will be restricted for public on Kaanum Pongal (January 16) --- a day in the Pongal holidays for family gathering.

Chennai Commissioner Maheshkumar Agarwal, Additional Commissioner R Dhinakaran and Triplicane Deputy Commissioner G Dharmarajan will hold a consultative meet on the strictures.
Though the curbs are for all the Chennai beaches, Marina is specially focused as it would be festooned with fairs and games on Kaanum Pongal and this the beach that would usually be hived on this particular time of the year in normal circumstances.
However, there would be no restrictions on January 14, 15 and 17. People can visit the beaches wearing masks but have to vacate by 10 in the night. Additional Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) workers would be deputed on these three days to supervise the public and levy penalty on failure of wearing masks.
Roads to the Marina would be barricaded and guarded by 2,000 policemen on Kaanum Pongal.
