3 cops suspended for harassing transpersons

CHENNAI: Head Constable Sasikumar of Kumaran Nagar, who was on leave that day, met a few transpersons with a friend in Ashok Nagar. While Sasikumar’s friend allegedly received sexual favours from them, the latter allegedly demanded more money from him. When he refused to shell out more, a quarrel erupted and the transpersons snatched the phone of Sasikumar’s friend.

A senior officer who was on night rounds reached the spot and conducted inquiries. The next day, a complaint was received from the transpersons and since inquiries confirmed the allegations against the Head Constable, he was placed under suspension.

In another incident on the same night in KK Nagar station jurisdiction, Head Constable Kumaran and constable Pandian, who were on night rounds, spotted a man in a compromised position with a transperson in his car and allegedly tried to extort them after taking his car keys.

While the man alerted the police control room, they were taken to the police station for inquiry. Since allegations against the two cops were confirmed, they too were suspended.
