Vandalised 'Namma Chennai' selfie point on Marina cleaned by GCC officials post complaint
A police complaint has been filed over the issue and the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Sunday, has said that the vandalisation has also been cleared by the GCC officials.
Chennai: A bunch of youths defaced the popular 'Namma Chennai' selfie point at Marina the Chennai by scribbling their own names over it on Saturday.

The action was taken by the officials after the issue was brought to light by a journalist on Saturday, who took to social media and posted a snap of the structure with youngsters sitting on the top.

A day after the photo was posted, the GCC responded to the tweet accompanied by a video clip showing workers cleaning the installation saying, “#NammaChennai typography is being cleaned. A police complaint has also been filed. Thanks for bringing this to us. Public participation is core to Chennai's development.”

The ‘Namma Chennai’ selfie spot was set up at Marina Beach in Chennai under the Smart City Mission last year at a budget of Rs 24 lakh. The structure which is a blend of Tamil and English showcases the Tamil word 'Namma' (our) in red colour on top and the word Chennai in which below. Many Chennaiities have stated that the spot helped them to create fond memories of the city cutting across social, political, economic, and religious barriers.
