    Man robbed off cash, gold; woman escapes attempt

    Madhavaram police have launched a hunt for two men who diverted the attention of a 58-year-old man and escaped with his bag containing three sovereigns of gold and Rs 26,000 in cash on Tuesday.

    The victim, K Sandhana Pandi of Kodungaiyur, parked his two-wheeler on Red Hills-Madhavaram High Road to deposit cash at an ATM around 1.30 pm.

    When he returned to the bike and kept the bag containing valuables on the tank, a man diverted his attention claiming that he had dropped some cash.

    While he searched for the cash, another man took away the bag kept on the tank, and both con men fled the spot.

    Based on his complaint, Madhavaram police have registered a case.

    In another incident, Nolambur police have launched a hunt for 2 men on a bike who tried to snatch 11 sovereigns from a pedestrian on Tuesday night. The victim, Umarani (56), is wife of a customs department superintendent at Chennai airport.

    The incident happened when she was walking back home from a nearby shop at Tatia Nagar. Two men on a bike followed her and tried to snatch her chain. However, since Umarani held on to the chain, the duo fled the spot.
