    Complaint against persons who collected money at public toilets

    According to a Chennai Corporation press release, complaints were received from public against persons collecting money from users in some of the public toilets.

    CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has lodged police complaint against two persons, who were collecting money from the public for using public toilets in Royapuram zone.

    According to a Chennai Corporation press release, complaints were received from public against persons collecting money from users in some of the public toilets.

    "On Saturday, it was found that money was being collected from the users in a public toilet inside Broadway bus stand and another toilet near Broadway Metro Station. Police complaints have been lodged against two persons, " the release said.

    Similar police action will be taken against the persons collecting money from public, the civic body warned.

    The release added that public toilets are free for public use and boards have been placed at the facilities announcing that there is no charges for using the toilets.

    In July, the civic body lodged police complaints against 6 persons for collecting money at public toilets.

    Presently, the civic body maintains 943 public toilets across the city with 7,590 seats. Apart from this, Chennai Corporation has taken up restoration of unused toilets and construction of new toilets in 366 locations at Rs 36 crore under Swachh Bharat programme. The facilities will have 860 toilet seats and 620 urinals.
