CHENNAI: A 48-year-old woman died after she fell from a moving two-wheeler in Tiruverkadu on Thursday. Pankajam, a housekeeping staffer, was a resident of Tirunavukkarasu Nagar in Perambur. Her son Arun, (18), is a first year engineering student in a nearby college. On Thursday morning, the duo left on a two-wheeler to attend a function at their relative's house in Poonamalee. As they were crossing Velappanchavadi, a cow suddenly came in their way and caught them off-guard. In an attempt to avoid crashing the animal, Arun swerved the bike. Pankajam, who was riding pillion, lost her balance in the melee and fell to the ground and became unconscious. The onlookers called for an ambulance and the paramedics who arrived at the scene declared Pankajam dead on the spot. Luckily, Arun survived the accident with minor injuries, police said. The Poonamallee traffic police have registered a case and have sent Pankajam's body for an autopsy.
