Customs seize gold, and electronic goods at Chennai airport
Based on intelligence, two male passengers, Raheem Abdul Hameed of Chennai and Mohamed Asif of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai were intercepted by Chennai Air Customs officers.
CHENNAI: Customs officials seized gold, precious stones and electronic goods at the Chennai airport on Friday.
Based on intelligence, two male passengers, Raheem Abdul Hameed of Chennai and Mohamed Asif of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai were intercepted by Chennai Air Customs officers.
On search, three bundles of gold in paste form were found concealed in their rectum and two gold bars, two gold bits and two gold chains in person resulted in the recovery of 1.281 kgs of gold valued at Rs 59.70 lakh from both passengers.

Further, on examination of their baggage, electronic goods valued at Rs 4.86 lakh were also recovered from these passengers.
In another case, based on intelligence, a male passenger Thangaraja of Sri Lanka, who arrived from Colombo, was intercepted by Chennai Air Customs officials.
On search, six bundles of precious stones were found concealed in his rectum which resulted in the recovery of 1706.05 karats of precious stones valued at 23.13 lakh from the passenger and the same was seized under Customs Act, 1962.
Further investigations are under progress.
