Day after DT Next report, GCC prunes weak tree in Madipakkam

CHENNAI: Two days after DT Next highlighted the indifference of GCC officials regarding the removal of a weak tree in Madipakkam, the civic body removed its weakened branches, on Thursday. The tree is located near the Ponniamman Koil bus stand on Velachery Main Road in Madipakkam and some of the branches were dead. Even after a local activist raised the issue with the civic body officials, no action was taken despite the danger of the branches falling on the road. “The local engineer informed us that the branches have been removed. Good, they acted at least after newspaper reports,” GM Shankar, the activist who raised the complaint, said. When he raised the complaint on Namma Chennai app, the local engineer forwarded the complaint to the park overseer delaying the action.
