CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday quashed three cases filed against State Rural Development minister KR Periyakaruppan who was booked on charges of staging a protest in Sivaganga district in 2017, using more number of vehicles during the 2016 State assembly election, and opening the party office without getting permission.

Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan passed the orders on hearing the criminal original petitions filed by Periyakaruppan.
Advocate Muthu Ramalingam, representing the petitioner, stated that the cases were booked on the grounds of political vendetta during the past AIADMK regime. He further argued that Periyakaruppan was protesting NEET examination and that it was a right granted under the Constitution to express objections against the government.
Recording the submissions, the judge quashed all the cases filed against the Periyakaruppan.
