Water supply to be affected in Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam areas

CHENNAI: Water supply will be affected in some areas of Kodambakkam and Valasaravakkam zones as the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metrowater) has scheduled interlinking of water pipes, on Saturday.

According to a Metrowater press release, works to interlink a water pipe from an overhead tank in Ramakrishna Nagar with a water main pipe at the junction on Arcot Road and Kamarajar Road. "Due to the works, water supply to MGR Nagar, KK Nagar, Nesapakkam, Jaffarkhanpet, Saidapet, Ramapuram, Valasaravakkam, Maduravoyal, TAISHA apartments, Choolaimedu will be affected between Saturday 5 am to 5 pm,” the release said.

The water manager has requested the public to store adequate water in advance. Residents can contact 8144930910 (Kodambakkam) and 8144930911 (Valasaravakkam) for lorry water supply.

Meanwhile, the Metrowater has decided to clean sewer lines in around 2,000 streets across the city. "The mass cleaning of sewer lines and manholes will be cleaned between September 16 and September 30," another release said.

The works would be conducted in 1,998 streets and as many as 11,395 manholes will be cleared. "During the drive, sewer pipes and manholes will be desilted. As many as 500 machines such as 282 desilting machines, 161 jet-rodding machines, 57 super suckers will be used," the statement said.
