HC grants advance bail to duo for pasting posters against Stalin
The judge granted the relief to the accused upon recording their affidavit promising that they will not repeat the offense in the future. The accused also sought an unconditional apology for their act of defaming the Chief Minister.
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted conditional anticipatory bail to two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were booked by the Chennai Harbour police on charges of sticking posters in a way defaming the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Justice AD Jagadish Chandira passed the direction on disposing of a petition filed by M Arumugam aka Mannadi Arumugam and K Ramesh. The police booked the duo for pasting the offensive posters against the CM in the northern part of Chennai city on September 11.
The judge granted the relief to the accused upon recording their affidavit promising that they will not repeat the offense in the future. The accused also sought an unconditional apology for their act of defaming the Chief Minister.
Recording the submissions, the judge granted the AB with a condition directing them to stay in Madurai. The judge wanted the duo to appear before the Tallakkulam police station in Madurai for 21 days.
The police objected to granting anticipatory bail submitting that they have to unearth several conspiracies behind the act of the accused. It could be also noted that police submitted that one arrested Krishna Kumar, Personal Assistant to BJP state president K Annamalai planned, funded, and executed this act of defaming the Chief Minister by pasting posters in the city.
