History sheeter murdered for revenge; Five arrested

CHENNAI: A 33-year-old man, a history sheeter was hacked to death by a gang on Friday night, allegedly to avenge the death of a man during new year’s celebrations in 2013.
The deceased was identified as Karthikeyan, a resident of Gandhi Nagar 8th street in Pulianthope. Police said that Karthikeyan has at least ten pending cases against him including two murder cases.
On Thursday night, Karthikeyan was talking with his friends near a playground in his neighbourhood when he was rounded up by the gang.
While Karthikeyan and his friends took to their heels on seeing the opposite gang carrying weapons, the gang managed to round up Karthikeyan and rained blows on him, leaving him in a pool of blood, before escaping.
Karthikeyan’s friends moved him to a hospital nearby where he was declared brought dead. Basin Bridge police secured Karthikeyan’s body and moved it to the government hospital for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Karthikeyan was executed by the friends and relatives of one, Ranjith during new year’s celebrations in 2013. Ranjith’s brother, Prem along with his friends plotted to murder Karthikeyan and murdered him on Friday night, police sources said.
Basin Bridge Police registered a case of murder and on Saturday arrested five persons - G Prem Kumar (37), R Naresh Kumar (29), S Sanjay (19), E Karthik (21), E Yugaraj (26).
Search is on for another suspect, Sanjay.
