Road rage leads to college student’s death near Chennai

CHENNAI: A 22-year-old college student was killed in a freak incident following a road rage with a truck driver at Pudupedu near Kundrathur in Chennai outskirts on Monday.

The deceased was identified as N Mohanraj, a resident of Vel Nagar in Nandhambakkam. On Monday, Mohanraj was traveling with his family towards Chennai-Bengaluru Highway in their car, when a truck which was trailing their car, hit the rear-view mirror of the car and sped away.

Despite Mohanraj’s screams, the truck driver did not halt his vehicle, which had infuriated him. The youth chased down the truck and intercepted the vehicle near Pudupedu.

Mohanraj got off the vehicle and verbally abused the truck driver. As both of them exchanged abuses, the argument escalated and Mohanraj climbed onto the truck near the driver’s seat, in a bid to assault the truck driver.

At this point, the truck driver, in his attempt to flee, started the vehicle and drove, which led to Mohanraj slipping and falling down. He came under the wheels of the truck and was killed on the spot.

The victim’s relatives reached the scene on information and damaged the truck. Police rushed to the scene and pacified the protestors. Chromepet traffic investigation wing have arrested the truck driver, Karthikeyan (38) and are investigating.
