    5 arrested in Chennai with huge haul of prescription drugs

    CHENNAI: Police seized about 3,000 prescription drugs and arrested five men in the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road on Tuesday.

    Based on the information that prescription drugs are being supplied in Tambaram and its surrounding areas, police formed a special team and were monitoring the area.

    On Tuesday, during the vehicle check, police intercepted five men who came on two bikes.

    They then checked the bikes and found 1,500 Nitravet tablets and 1,500 Tydol tablets along with 30 syringes and saline water bottles. Soon, police seized tablets and syringes and their five mobile phones. Police arrested the five accused.

    They were identified as Yovan (32) of Iyyappanthangal, Baskar (23) of Nagalkeni, Santhosh Kumar (28) of Saidapet, Stephen Kumar (23) of Chitlapakkam and Siva Kumar (20) a college student from Cuddalore. Police said Yovan, Baskar and Santhosh Kumar already have many pending cases against them and have been arrested and sent to prison several times.

    During the inquiry, they told the police that they used to order tablets online and would receive them from Delhi. The police handed over them to the Pallavaram police and registered a case. They were remanded in judicial custody and sent to prison.
