CHENNAI: Petrol bombs were hurled during a clash between two groups of ganja peddlers in Alandur on Monday night. Members of police patrol team that went to the spot were also attacked by the group. Police have arrested 19 men and the search is on to nab the others who are missing.
Police said on Monday morning late history-sheeter Nagoor Meeran's supporters kidnapped one of the supporters of history-sheeter Robin in Guindy and they trashed him and were later released in the evening. After the incident, around 20 supporters of Robin went to take revenge on Meeran's supporters with petrol bombs and country bombs along with sickles. Police said the group damaged vehicles which were parked on the roadside and attack a few supporters of Meeran's group and also hurled petrol bombs at them.
On information, the police patrol who rushed to the spot tried to stop the attackers but they escaped from the spot after hurling bombs at the police personnel. Soon additional police force was rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and special teams were formed to nab the attackers. Police said three history sheeters were injured in the attack and one of them was admitted to Royapettah GH in critical condition.
On Tuesday morning the speical team of police arrested 19 men from both the groups and search is on to nab the others who are missing.
Police said Nagoor Meeran and Robin both of them were ganja peddlers in Alandur and both the groups used to quarrel often over jurisdiction problems in collecting mamool and pedalling ganja. Two years ago, Nagoor Meeran was murdered by Robin's gang following which Meeran's gang were trying to take a revenge on Robin.
