Woman who targeted shoppers in T Nagar arrested

CHENNAI: Police have arrested a 52-year-old woman, a history sheeter for allegedly targeting shopping crowd in T Nagar and stealing from them.
Police were acting based on a complaint of Paranthaman (42) of Govindarajapuram near Avadi.
The man had come with his family to TNagar for Deepavali shopping and was at a store in Ranganathan street when his purse got stolen.
Based on his complaint, police perused CCTV footage in the shop and followed it up with the footages in the street to zero in on the suspect.
Police found a woman sneaking Paranthanaman’s purse out of his pocket and casually exiting the store.
On Monday, police arrested S Shanthi of Balaji Nagar in Kundrathur for the theft.
Investigations revealed that she is indulged in several such theft cases and on the same day she has stolen two mobile phones from different persons too.
Police recovered the purse with Rs 9,200 cash and two mobile phones from her. She was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
