70-year-old building near Parrys Corner collapses; 2 injured, 4 feared trapped
According to sources, two persons who were standing near the spot during the time of the accident were injured and have been taken to Government Stanley Hospital for treatment.
CHENNAI: A building under renovation at Armenian Street, near Parrys Corner collapsed on Wednesday morning. At least four persons feared caught under the debris. Rescue operations under way.
According to sources, two persons who were standing near the spot during the time of the accident were injured and have been taken to Government Stanley Hospital for treatment.
Senior Corporations officials, health department officials and police officers rushed to the spot as the information was out. It is also said that the earth movers have been involved in the rescue operation which is likely to take place for another 2 hours.
Medical facilities are also put in place at the spot to rush the injured for treatment once they are rescued.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched by the police department on the accident who are on the lookout for the concerned person.
"Nearly 10 people were working when the incident occurred. Six have come out while efforts are on to rescue four people on a war-footing with the use of equipment," Deputy Mayor M Magesh Kumar told reporters.
Orders have been issued to undertake audit on the stability of those buildings which are located nearby, he added.
