    The ongoing lockdown has forced many of us to alter the way we go about our daily routine. Chennaites share tales of the changes they have made to adapt to the new ‘normal’ of living and working with limited interaction

    The workload is usually high around this time of the year. It was easier to coordinate as could meet with people and colleagues at the office. Now, it takes a bit more time because of work from home and lockdown. We have daily meetings, but life isn’t affected too much. We had a few instances of power shutdown and so I had to manoeuvre around that. Wifi speed at the office is better, so working from home is a little a time-consuming. My husband has also been working from home these days. He has been helping me take care of the house. We have a daily routine - waking up, having tea, watching the news, and then getting to work at 10 am. The good thing is that there is flexibility in work from home. If there isn’t anything urgent, I can take a break and prepare lunch and eat with my husband. Without my husband helping out, it would be difficult to deal with this situation. Things have changed with the lockdown. 

    We no longer have the option to go out for a movie or dinner. Weekends, specifically, are very tiring. We just bingewatch or eat or sleep. I go to the terrace and spend some time walking. It gets on your nerves sometimes, because you just want to do things. I also do some social work, and I have been itching to get back to it as per the goals I’ve set for myself. Just sitting within these four walls can be frustrating at times. I remind myself that this is good for society. If I go out because of frustration, I might get sick or get in trouble with the police. It’s not a long term solution. I tell myself to relax and then I call my mother or go on the terrace or play some games on my phone to get distracted from the frustration. Because I have a set routine during weekdays, the frustration doesn’t settle in then. It helps me stay calm and smart.
