    Modi decision on extension today

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of all states on Saturday via video, where a call would be taken on whether the 21-day lockdown to check spread of coronavirus, ending next week, should be extended.

    The video conference comes amidst indications that the central government may extend the lockdown across the country beyond April 14 after several states have favoured the extension to contain the fast-spreading virus.

    The Union Home Ministry also sought views of state governments on the 21day lockdown including whether more categories of people and services need to be exempted, officials said on Friday, amidst indications of a possible two-week extension of the nationwide restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus.

    Punjab extends it to May 1 

    A day after Odisha became the first State to extend lockdown till April 30, the Punjab government extended the ongoing lockdown till May 1, amid rising number of coronavirus cases and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh apprehending the state might be moving towards the community transmission stage of the outbreak. A statement said the Chief Minister will convey the decision of extending the lockdown to Modi at his conference on Saturday.
