Accused in Visakhapatnam minor girl's murder shifted to Central jail
The City police shifted Akhil Sai Venkat, an accused in the murder of a 17-year-old girl, to the Central jail on Tuesday.
Vishakhapatnam
Venkat, a law student and resident of Chittinaidu colony, had allegedly slit the girl's throat after a heated argument with her on Sunday. The girl bled to death.
He had called the girl, an intermediate student, to a nearby Sai Baba temple. Though she was busy with wedding preparations in the family, Venkat managed to meet the girl, a resident of Srinagar Colony in Gajuwaka, said the police.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Venkat's father had been a rowdy-sheeter. "Venkat's father had a rowdy-sheet opened against him in the past," confirmed Visakhapatnam police commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha to IANS.
Police are gathering more information about the family of the accused.
The state government gave an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the girl's family. Home Minister Mekathoti Suchairta and senior officials visited the victim's family.
