Chennai rains HIGHLIGHTS: Waterlogging, traffic updates from around Chennai, suburbs on 15.10.2024
Chennai Corporation has announced a helpline number 1913. A holiday has been declared for schools and colleges and the government requested people to check the TN Alert App for weather updates.
CHENNAI: With the incessant rains that started on Monday night continuing on (Tuesday) October 15, many parts of Chennai and its suburbs are experiencing moderate inundation.
Intermittent, widespread rains are being witnessed in other regions of Tamil Nadu as well with the weather department announcing that the northeast monsoon has officially set in across the state from today noon. The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal also intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, and is likely to become a depression very soon.
Chennai Corporation has announced a helpline number 1913 while the government has requested people to check the TN Alert App for weather updates. A holiday has been declared for schools and colleges tomorrow (October 16) as well, in view of the red alert given.

Metro Rail Safety Advisory:
1. Waterlogging in B-Road, Koyambedu is observed, passengers are requested to access Koyambedu Metro Station through Foot over bridge from Poonamallee High Road, Landmark – Rohini Theatre side.
2. Park side entry escalator is switched off in B1 entrance at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.M.G.Ramachandran Central Metro Station for safety purposes. Passengers are advised to exercise care while using the staircase at all Metro Stations.
3.Passengers are advised not to halt their vehicles at Koyambedu Metro, St.Thomas Mount and Arumbakkam Metro station and parking lots prone to water stagnation from 15-10-2024 to 17-10-2024 (Dates will be further updated based on the weather condition).

In Mogappair West, heavy overnight rains subsided early in the morning, but thunder and lightning started soon afterwards. Except for narrow, mostly interior streets, most of the roads are clear without stagnation as of now.
Shops largely remained shut except for neighbourhood provision stores.

At Pallavaram, Pammal, Anakaputhur and Kundrathur areas in the outskirts, it was drizzling till 10 am, after which heavy rains accompanied by lightning and thunder set in.
