2024 Lok Sabha Elections RESULTS HIGHLIGHTS: NDA set to form government for a third consecutive term
"People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India’s history," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his first message after the results on Tuesday.
CHENNAI: The saffron party's poll outcome was overshadowed by the resurgent opposition which restricted the right-wing party to far below the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA, however, is expected to cross the magic figure comfortably; it is expected to win about 240 seats against the 303 it had won in 2019.
"People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India’s history," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his first message after the results on Tuesday.
The party is expected to reflect on what caused the sharp fall in its numbers.
Modi will now have to for the first time navigate the uncertainties of a coalition government and the demands of allies. With the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance projected to be above the 290 mark against the majority tally of 272, he is expected to head the new government in which allies will matter more than ever.
