TNPL 2023: Super Gillies thrashes Trichy
After putting 129 for seven on the board in its final league match of the season, Chepauk bundled Trichy out for a paltry 71 in the 14th over to secure its third win of the season.
CHENNAI: Left-arm spinner M Silambarasan (5/12 off 3 overs) bagged a match-winning five-wicket haul as Chepauk Super Gillies stayed alive in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 play-off race after it crushed the winless Ba11sy Trichy by 58 runs at the India Cements Company Ground in Tirunelveli on Sunday.
After putting 129 for seven on the board in its final league match of the season, Chepauk bundled Trichy out for a paltry 71 in the 14th over to secure its third win of the season. Super Gillies, which snapped its four-match losing streak, is currently fourth on the table with six points from seven games while Trichy is yet to open its account after six matches.
Invited to bat first, Chepauk was struggling at 73 for six in the 13th over as none of its top and middle-order batters got going. But, debutant R Sibi (31 off 28 balls, 2 fours) and U Sasidev (25 not out off 24 balls, 1 four) came up with a rescue act and guided Super Gillies to 129 for seven with a 56-run alliance for the seventh wicket. In the second essay, No.3 Daryl S Ferrario (45 off 30 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) waged a lone battle for Trichy, which could not handle Silambarasan and his left-arm spin-bowling partner Sanjay Yadav (2/7).
The Trichy batters went down like ninepins as the team lost its last seven wickets for just 15 runs – it went from 56 for three to 71 all-out. Earlier in the day, table-topper Lyca Kovai Kings dented Siechem Madurai Panthers’ playoff chances with a comfortable 44-run victory.
