After 2 yrs, Edu Dept reintroduces Director post by appointing Arivoli
According to the circular, Arivoli, who was serving as the director of elementary education, has been posted to the School Education Department.
CHENNAI: The School Education Department has reintroduced the director post after two years by appointing G Arivoli as the director on Monday. The director post was shelved in 2021 and a commissioner was appointed for the department till 2023.
However, with constant demand from government teachers' association and department staff to revive the post, the director position was reintroduced by shuffling among other directors.
According to the circular, Arivoli, who was serving as the director of elementary education, has been posted to the School Education Department.
S Kanappan of Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has been appointed as the elementary education director.
Additionally, VC Rameshwara Murugan of Samagra Shiksha has been appointed as the secretary of Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB). And, M Palaniswami of TRB has been appointed as the director of Directorate of Non-formal and Adult Education.
M Kupusamy will take charge as the member secretary of TN Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. Besides this, on Monday joint directors of various departments have also been shuffled.
Meanwhile, as the appointment of director post has been announced, the department is yet to confirm about shelving the commissioner post as a whole.
Welcoming the decision to revive the director post, P Patric Raymond, general secretary of TN Graduate Teachers Federation said, "The director post is more fitting for the education department as the particular official has a better understanding of the field and challenges faced by teachers and students. More importantly, the director is more approachable for staff inside the department."
Patric also goes on to say that because directors have over two to three decades' experience and have worked as a teacher themselves, the department can function more efficiently.
Some of the demands made by teachers association to the new director are; filling the school HM vacancies at high and higher secondary schools, resolving teachers appointment issues, filling vacancies of teachers in government and government-aided schools and holding promotions.
