    Case against Madurai deputy mayor, 4 others in alleged property grab case

    CHENNAI: A case has been registered against Madurai Deputy Mayor T Nagarajan, his brother Rajendran, and three others following allegations of assault in a property grab case.

    According to a Daily Thanthi report, the incident occurred in Jaihindpuram in Madurai where Vasantha, an elderly resident, owns a house and a shop valued at Rs 1 crore. Vasantha had mortgaged her property three years ago and borrowed Rs 10 lakh from a man named Kumar a year ago. Even after regular interest payments, Kumar allegedly demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh and insisted on taking possession of the property to clear the loan.

    When Vasantha refused, Kumar, along with Rajendran and others, assaulted her and her son Muruganandam, the report added.

    Based on the elderly woman's complaint, Jayhindpuram police registered a case against Rajendran, his brother Deputy Mayor Nagarajan, and three others under eight sections of the Indian Penal Code.

    Further investigations are under way.
