Ensure 2-year-tenure for bureaucrats: Ramadoss urges TN govt

CHENNAI: Condemning the frequent transfers of IAS officers in the state, PMK founder S Ramadoss urged the government to ensure that the officers are posted in particular posts for at least two years.
In a statement, the senior leader said that on January 31, the government transferred 31 IAS officers and within 10 days, 38 officers were transferred. "Even though the government has power to transfer officers, the transfers should be made to improve the governance. But, the recent transfers will cripple it," he opined.
It may be noted that this paper had reported senior IAS officers complaining of frequent transfers of senior bureaucrats could disrupt the smooth functioning of administrative apparatus.
Listing out the names of several bureaucrats, who have been transferred from their posts within a few months after they took over, Ramadoss added that officials would take at least two months to understand the functioning of their new posts. "Transferring them even before they start working will affect the functioning of the departments concerned, " he said.
Recalling a Supreme Court order that mandates at least 2 years tenure for Director General of Police, Ramadoss demanded the government to ensure two tenure for IAS officers too.
