CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday said that about 1.06 crore women have been shortlisted from 1.63 crore applicants for the Kalaignar Magazhir Urimai Thogai Thittam (KMUT) which would be launched on September 15 coinciding with the birth anniversary of DMK founder C N Annadurai.

Reviewing the implementation of the KMUT scheme from his camp office, Stalin said, "This would be the biggest scheme of the Tamil Nadu government. Over one crore women would simultaneously receive Rs 1,000 per head every month throughout the year. It would be the most sophisticated scheme requiring maximum fund allocation and comprising maximum number of beneficiaries. Since over a crore people would benefit, it would be equivalent to one crore appreciation."

Informing that arrangements were being made to deposit the sum in eligible beneficiaries' accounts from Friday, the CM said that about 1.63 crore applications were received for the scheme and about 1,06,50,000 eligible women have been selected for the scheme.

The CM also instructed the officials to provide a toll-free number in the SMS to be sent on his behalf on September 15 to report any difficulty in withdrawing the money from their bank accounts.

Advising the officers to send SMS' stating the reason for rejection of applications to those applicants filtered out, the CM said that most people would be satisfied with the SMS, but some people would apply again and opportunity must be provided to them for the same, which would increase their confidence in the government.

The CM asked the officials to make arrangements to engage the rejected women applicants who turn up at the venue of the scheme launch on Friday.

Suggesting that dedicated officers must be deployed at the help desks to receive the applications from 'rejected' women applicants, the CM asked the chief secretary to instruct all district collectors to constantly monitor the scheme implementation, mainly the month-wise monitoring of the smooth relationship between the banks and government and the people.

State chief secretary Shiv Das Meena, chief minister's secretary N Muruganandam and finance secretary T Udhayachandran were present during the meeting.
